Following on from Robbie Nicholson’s interview, I caught up with Dean Williams with regards to his fight. Dean faced off against Robert Gryn in a 63kg catchweight bout.

The action started off at a fast pace with both fighters striking and clinching. Gryn dived in for a takedown to which he got caught in a guillotine and tapped in the first round. Dean had this to say on his submission victory…

Congratulations on your submission victory Dean, give us some of your thoughts on your fight?

“Thanks man, in all honestly it went smoothly. I was confident and calm in my ability and as a result was able to adapt to his high pace attack pretty much as soon as he went for it”

Your opponent seemed to dive in for a takedown after a quick exchange on the feet, after your 7 second KO in your first fight a bit of respect for your striking perhaps?

“I don’t think he wanted to stand with me at all really, as shown by the complete lack of engagement even after I escaped from his clinch and landed a few punches myself. He just dived right for my legs again”

You finished the fight quickly with a guillotine in the first, how did it feel to finish another bout again so quickly?

“I enjoyed the duration, it was short and sweet. It was late on in the night too so it was nice to get it done so quickly. I said I wanted to be back in the win column and I went out and did just that”

Cheers Dean, as always who’s out there to thank?

“Massive thanks to all of 12 Gauge MMA, Jake Ocean at Sukata BJJ and my beautiful girlfriend Jemma Jacques for helping me with my weight cut, the show and everything”
