Following from our last two posts, it’s now the turn of Dean Williams to take the spotlight. With three fights under his belt, Dean is no stranger to fighting inside the cage. Making his debut back in July 2014, he made his presence felt straight away with a one punch KO of John Eyre at ICE 3 which was replayed around the world. Dean has since fought twice most recently being involved in an absolute war with Adil Hussain at ICE 5 but ultimately losing a decision on the night.
I got some time in with Dean in the run up to his Bantamweight matchup…
Thanks for answering a few questions Dean. Firstly, what are your thoughts on your bout at GP UK?
“I don’t really have any specific thoughts about the upcoming fight, having not seen any footage on my opponent I’m fighting it presents uncertainty, so I’m not overthinking anything. My aim is to get straight back in there and get in the win column.”
Your last fight was at ICE 5 where you had an absolute brawl with Adil Hussain. What did you take from the fight?
“I think I showed a lot of my potential and confidence in my last bout and I’m taking this into the next. I’ve been focusing a lot more on my fitness and conditioning practically since my last fight ended.”
How has your fight camp been going and what have you changed up?
“My camps been pretty unorthodox in fairness. Even though I fight as part of 12 Gauge, recently moving to the West Midlands hasn’t allowed me to get to the gym and train with my teammates. I couldn’t have this so I’ve been training with Sukata BJJ and their guys, still helping to improve my game.”
Thanks for your time answering some questions, as always anyone to thank?
“I would like to thank my team mates and coaches for the years of training and support regardless of distance. My girlfriend, Jemma – for the sparring, support and helping me not get too fat and of course my opponent for the opportunity!”
Thanks to Dean for taking the time out. That’s it for our three fighters, you can catch them Saturday 4th April at GP UK. As always, tickets still available from Matt Thorpe at 12 Gauge MMA’s reception.
